Tata motors make another foray in the heavily populated compact sedan segment of India. After Indigo CS and Tata Zest, the company launches Tata Tigor for the compact sedan segment of India. Tata Tigor is the second launch for the company after Tata Hexa in January this year. Right off the bat it is the price of Tata Tigor that catches the eye.
Also, The car has been aggressively priced, starting from INR 4.70 lacs. Swift Dzire, the segment leader is at INR 5.27 lacs. While Indigo CS another offering from the Tata Motors stable costs INR 5.03 lacs.
Further, the compact sedan segment of cars in India might seem overcrowded to some. But the segment accounted for 40% of the car sales of January 2017 in the country. This segment saw sales of 114,000 units in the month. Maruti Suzuki saw 49% of the sales with 56,000 units sold and Swift Dzire accounted for 18,000 of those units.
Another stellar selling point for the Tigor is the design philosophy. Endorsement of Tigor is as a Style back or a stylish hatchback. The strategy is an echo of the tried and tested attempt earlier seen with Tata Tiago. This car has placed Tata Motors effectively on the map.
Moreover, Tiago sales surged past 50,000 units and accounted for 47% of the sales for Tata Motors. The current Tigor echoes a few features that have made Tiago such a crowd favorite. The engine of Tigor too is the same Revotron engine earlier seen in Tata Tiago. Tigor like the Tiago offers a large boot space of 400 liters. The pricing of Tigor too makes it the cheapest compact sedan of the country.
Tigor is in the price band of INR 4.72 lacs to INR 6.19 lacs for the 85 PS, 1199cc, 3 cylinder petrol version. While the Diesel is in the range of INR 5.60 lacs to INR 7.09 lacs for a 1047 cc, 3 cylinder, 70 PS engine.
