Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy is not up for grabs anymore
img

Talking about luxury cars Rolls Royce is one name that you just cannot surpass. The British manufacturer has physically incarnated the term luxury, and it’s just not complete without its crackerjack hood ornament. Eleanor Velasco Thornton or the Spirit of Ecstasy as we know it is the lady on the hood leaning forward with her arms outstretched behind and above her.

But the elegant yet fierce design of the ornament is not the only fascinating thing about it. Being equally desired by enthusiasts and thieves, the folks at Rolls Royce have ensured that the lady always stays on the top of the hood.

After the brand being resurrected in 2003, all the modern day Rolls Royce were installed with a unique mechanism.  The hood ornament is mounted on a spring loaded mechanism. If tampered with, it will automatically retract into the radiator shell.

It is protected with a 7.3 pound tangle of motors, sensor, plastic and metal. In case of a collision or on turning off the car, the same mechanism is in effect. The Spirit is replaced with a painted panel within seconds.

The mechanism is standard in all the Rolls Royce cars and makes it almost impossible to steal the Spirit of Ecstasy. The mechanism can also be controlled by the driver. With the touch of a button, the driver can raise or lower it ensuring its safety.

The Spirit of Ecstasy was first sculpted as a personal mascot in 1909 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost for Montagu. Available in stainless steel, customers can have customized models in complete gold and crystal worth extra $10,000.
