Having said that, Indian cinema is packed with some very impressive comedy films. We bring you our pick of the top 10 Comedy Movies of Indian Cinema:

 

Golmaal

 

 

Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Golmaal is a classic lighthearted comedy. In temptation of a good job, Amol Palekar dons a kurta pajama with oil slicked hair and a fake moustache. What unfolds thereafter is the hilarious movie Golmaal. With stunning performances from the star cast that also includes Bindiya Goswani, Utpal Dutt and Shubha Khote, this comedy of complex situations will have you in splits with every scene. Andaz Apna Apna

 

 

This cult classic movie of 1994 directed by Rajkumar Santoshi is one of the best comedies of Indian cinema. Although commercially the movie didn’t do well, the characters were definitely memorable and iconic like Goga, Teja, Robert, Amar and Prem. The fan following of this movie has increased over the years. We keep hearing about the making of a sequel which would be awesome, but we just have to wait and watch for now.

 

Padosan

 

 

Boasting of some of the finest comedians of its time like Kishore Kumar, Mehmood, Keshto Mukherjee and Mukri, Padosan released in 1968. Starring Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu and directed by Jyoti Swarup this classic comedy is one of the best comedies supported by some beautiful scores of music.

 

Bombay to Goa

 

 

Bombay to Goa bursts with funny situations and comic characters. This comedy adventure motion picture of 1972 takes you on a joyous bus ride from Bombay to Goa. Attention to detail about every single character and the foot tapping music takes this film to a whole new level. The film has artists like Mehmood, Amitabh Bachchan, Aruna Irani and Shatrughan Singha.

 

Hera Pheri

 

 

The iconic character of Babu Bhai, stellar performances by Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty and the finest dialogues puts Hera Pheri in the league. Directed by Priyadarshan the movie released in 2000.

 

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

 

 

This dark comedy directed by Kundan Shan released in1983. What do you get when you have the best artists of the industry like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Ravi Biswani, Pankaj Kapoor and Satish Shah in a movie? A winning performance and a great movie! The Vastra Haran scene in the movie is epic and will crack you up.

 

3 Idiots

 

 

Rajkumar Hirani knows how to create a masterpiece and 3 idiots is no exception. This surprisingly fresh, inspiring yet emotional story lifts your spirit and pushes you to chase your dream. The movie takes humour to another level. Aamir Khan did 100% justice to his role along with Boman Irani, Omi Vaidya, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan and Kareena Kapoor.

 

Chupke Chupke

 

 

Hrishikesh Mukherjee is the father of comedy and knows how to tickle the funny bones. This classic comedy with perfect comic timing from actors like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Om Prakash, Sharmila Tagore and Jaya Bachchan is a perfect evening movie you can watch to relax after a tiring day at work.

 

Munna Bhai MBBS

 

 

MunnaBhai MBBS is another one of the Rajkumar Hirani flicks that is worthy of mention here. Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani have proved that comedy is their forte with a brilliant performance in the film.

 

Pushpak

 

 

Pushpaka Vimana is a dark but silent comedy that hit theatres in 1987. Despite having no dialogues, this spectacular film will blow your mind away. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Amala and Tinnu Anand.
