The BSE Sensex edged lower today by 57.92 points (-0.19%) to close at 31,213.36. Losses were also posted by larger rival NSE Nifty, down 16.65 points (-0.17%) to close at 9,647.25.
On the BSE, healthcare and metal stocks gained 1.64% (+228.55) and 0.72% (+80.55) respectively. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd led the gains, up 3.76% (+95.6).
Energy and IT stocks suffered, down 1.38% (-193.25) on the BSE and 1.41% (-151.25) on the Nifty respectively. TCS was today's worst performer, down 3.58% (-93.65)
In Asia, Nikkei also fell by 75.36 points (0.38%) to close at 19,909.26. Hang Seng ended at 26,063.06 up 88.90 points (+0.34%).
In Europe, London's FTSE is flat at 7,473.16 down 5.46 points (-0.07%). However German DAX is trading up by58.35 points (+0.46%) at 12,730.84.
In commodities, Brent crude is up 38 ¢ at $ 48.41 per barrel. Gold is down 135 rupees at 29,305.00per 10 grams while Silver is down 79 rupees at 40,473.00 per Kg.
Rupee is up by 1 paisa at 64.31 per dollar. It is also up by 24paisa against the Euro.
